Dr. Khanna kicked off his journey with an undergraduate degree from Virginia Commonwealth University. He then earned his dental degree from the University of Pennsylvania. During that time, he also obtained a master’s degree in bioethics from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. Finally, he moved to New York City where he studied orthodontics at New York University and served as chief resident.

He didn’t stop there. Dr. Khanna continues to hone his craft through continuing education and even holds an attending teaching position in the dental residency program at New York Methodist Hospital in Park Slope. Dr. Khanna is also the only orthodontist in the local Spear Study Club, which is a nationally recognized study club comprised of a multidisciplinary group of your local dentists that meet regularly to discuss collaborative methods to elevate your quality of dental care.

Malocclusion is just a big word for crooked teeth and a misaligned bite. This can be due to a problem with your jaws or your teeth. Dr. Khanna will get to the bottom of it during your consultation and present you with your treatment options.

• You could spend hours brushing your teeth and still be at risk for gum disease and cavities. Crowding or spacing makes keeping your teeth clean more difficult. When your teeth are straight it’s easier to brush, floss and maintain a sparkling smile.
• Healthy teeth equal a healthy body. Chewing can be a chore when your teeth are crooked and your bite isn’t aligned. When chewing is painful or inefficient your nutrition might suffer.
• An irregular bite creates unnecessary wear and may cause damaged gums and bones. This in turn often leads to tooth loss.
• With an increased overjet (commonly called an overbite), the upper teeth stick out putting them in harm’s way. They’re more likely to be broken or damaged.
• A deep bite puts pressure directly on the palate, which damages the gums and bones that bolster the upper front teeth.
• Those with a crossbite can develop permanent, unwanted changes in skeletal growth.

As with almost everything else health-related, the earlier you address an issue the easier it is to fix. Early intervention can help you avoid surgery or the extraction of adult teeth.

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends your child visits an orthodontist when they’re seven-years-old. Just because they come see Dr. Khanna doesn’t mean we’ll start with braces immediately. If everything looks good, Dr. Khanna will simply monitor your child’s dental and facial development and let you know when it’s time for treatment.

Addressing orthodontic problems early can make treatment easier and faster and save your kid from a more prolonged and complex treatment process as a teen or adult.

First and foremost, it’s basically invisible. You won’t feel self conscious like some people do about metal braces. The custom-fitted plastic aligners are smooth and comfortable. You can take them out to eat and brush and floss your teeth. You can’t beat the convenience and the treatment is excellent for patients of all ages.

Invisalign can be used to treat crowding, spacing, crossbites, underbites, overjet and all of the usual suspects. However, it really depends on the individual. Dr. Khanna will determine if you’re a candidate for Invisalign at your initial consultation.

It’s the day you’ve been waiting for! We’ll take those babies off to reveal an amazing smile. We use special tools to remove the braces and then polish and clean your teeth. That’s it.

After seeing how good your smile looks, a retainer won’t seem like a big deal. Orthodontic treatment is an investment and you want to make sure it pays off. If you don’t wear a retainer your teeth shift back to how they were pre-braces. A retainer is the only way to permanently maintain straight teeth. Dr. Khanna will advise you on how to use your retainer.
